The Electric Truck Project started in 2007 when automotive teacher Mike Grew showed the film 'Who Killed The Electric Car?' to one of his classes. He had always been interested in electric vehicles, and soon found out that his interest was shared among the students. The automotive department had recently been donated a truck in need of a new engine, so Mr. Grew decided to use it for their first conversion. Electric vehicle conversion is an expensive process, so Mr. Grew approached Vic High's Environment Club to see if they were interested in fundraising for the project. The Environment club loved the idea, so the two groups teamed up (who would have thought?) to raise the $15000 needed to convert the truck. After several long months of bake sales, bottle drives, and letter writing, Vic High recieved to grants to complete the project. In total, they fundraised enough money to complete two cars! Check out the video made by Vic High Student Megan Harrison for more details. Thank you to everyone who helped us by generously donating to the project: Rob Flemming, Carol James, Fernwood Coffee Company, Strongback Stonemasonry, Telus, the BC Government.
