Pender Island Spring Leaves Family Learning

Pender Pizza Garden - Growing Food Locally

School: Pender Islands Elem-Secondary

Votes Received: 52

When asked last year what they loved the most, these school-enrolled homelearners said, "Pizza!" That's how the idea for their pizza garden was hatched. When Kenta and Yoko's father took along some grains of wheat to plant, the kids learned how to "grow" their pizzas from start to finish. They cared for the land by not using pesticides, conserved water by mulching, and became part of the climate change solution by growing some food right on their island, so it didn't have to be shipped there.
