Compost Kids
Compost KidsSchool: Telkwa Elementary School Votes Received: 38 This team has signed up five Smithers businesses which have agreed to compost staff room coffee grounds as well as fruit and vegetable scraps. Every Thursday after school the girls take their trailer and pickup the compost, leaving clean buckets and bringing back the compost to One Sky's community compost bins. They weigh and track the amount collected so that they can calculate the amount of GHG's being diverted on a monthly and annual basis. This project is great because it proves how simple composting can be even at the office. There is no cost to the businesses, the employees of the businesses are learning about the benefits of composting and the students voluntarily provide a community service while learning about positive actions they can take to reduce our community's carbon footprint.
